Transcend Playground Inspectors is a suite of Ofqual regulated vocational qualifications that sit in sector subject area 8.1 Sport, Leisure and Recreation. The suite is uniquely designed to offer a progressive development pathway for Playground and Activity Facility Inspectors. It also offers those in health and safety roles to enhance their scope of practice.

The Transcend Level 2 Award in the Routine Visual Inspection of Playgrounds and Activity Facilities is for learners aged 18+ who wish to fulfil the role of Routine Visual Inspector of Playgrounds and Activity Facilities. It may benefit those in a current health and safety role to enhance their scope of practice. It is particularly relevant to members of a school, council or private inspectorate workforce.

The qualification aim is to enable learners to develop learners’ skills required to fulfil the role of a routine visual inspector of playgrounds and activity facilities.

The qualification objective is to provide a benefit to learners by developing competence in vocational role. Learners will develop knowledge and skills that will enable them to schedule, perform and report on:

  • routine visual inspections of playgrounds
  • routine visual inspections of skate activity facilities
  • routine visual inspections of parkour activity facilities
  • routine visual inspections of free access multi sports activity facilities
  • routine visual inspections of outdoor adult fitness activity facilities

Successful learners will be compliant with Health and Safety Law and BS-EN standards in the routine visual inspection of playground and activity facilities. Successful learners may use these skills to gain employment or to enhance their current scope of practice.

The qualification was developed in collaboration with industry specialist RYNAT as the technical partner. It is validated through consultation with inspectors, industry employers, education providers and equality experts. Applicants and recognised centres are all required to evidence compliance with the centre recognition and qualification delivery conditions to gain and retain status.
